Organic and Handmade: The Start of Our Candle Store
When we decided to open our candle store, we knew we wanted to offer something special. We wanted our candles to be more than just a way to light up a room - we wanted them to be pieces of art, full of natural and handmade ingredients. That's why all of our candles are made with organic materials and crafted by hand. Our goal was to create a product that was both beautiful and sustainable, and we're proud to say that's exactly what we've achieved. In this blog post, we'll share the story of how our candle store began.
Why We Started Making Candles
My daughter and I had been searching for a clean, sustainable candle option that was free of artificial dyes and fragrances. We were tired of the soot and dark smoke from conventional candles, and we wanted something that would be both safe and eco-friendly. That’s when we decided to make our own organic and handmade prayer candles.
We source our materials from local suppliers, using only the finest 100% plant-based waxes, and natural essential oils. We also try to use recycled materials whenever possible. Each candle is lovingly hand poured in small batches, and with each candle we strive to create a beautiful, safe, and sustainable product that burns cleanly and emits a pleasant scent.

We offer unscented and scented prayer candles, as well as a variety of scented soy melts. All of our wicks are unbleached cotton and are lead-free to ensure a safe and clean burning candle. Our soy melts come in a variety of scents, from fruity to floral and everything in between. Whether you're looking for an earthy, fresh scent or something more exotic, we have it all! We also offer custom scents, so you can get the perfect candle for your needs. Our candles are crafted with care and attention to detail, ensuring that you get the best possible product.
How We Make Our Candles
At AlianabyDesign, we take great pride in the craftsmanship of our candles. Every step of the process is done with care, from selecting and sourcing the finest ingredients to perfecting our signature scents.
To begin, all of the containers we use for our candles are washed to get rid of any dust or manufacturing residue that may have been left behind. Then, the process of hand-pouring the wax and wicks begins.
The candles are poured in small batches to ensure quality and consistency in every product. We make sure to never overfill the containers so that they burn evenly and properly.
We also make our own organic and unbleached cotton wicks. We carefully measure the length and weight of each wick before tying them together and trimming them to size. This ensures that each candle has a perfect flame that is neither too big nor too small.
Finally, we add the scents and decorations to create beautiful candles that bring warmth and ambiance to any room. All of our candles are made with love and attention to detail, making sure that you get a product that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also of the highest quality.
Sourcing Our Materials
We take great pride in sourcing all of our materials ethically and sustainably. We use Iowa soy wax for all of our candles, which is 100% GMO-free and grown by local family farmers. We use American-grown cotton in making our own wicks because we believe in supporting small businesses and American manufacturing. We get our glass candle containers from American glass makers, and our prayer candle containers are made in Egypt, as they have a long history of making them with great craftsmanship.
We only use the highest quality materials in our candles, and it’s important to us that we do our part to ensure that these materials are sourced ethically and sustainably. By supporting local businesses, small manufacturers, and family farmers, we’re able to make sure that our products are made with love and care every step of the way.
Giving Back Through Our candles
We believe that it is important to give back to our community and those in need. We constantly donate to communities affected by typhoons in the Philippines and to homeless shelters here in Hampton Roads, and we are proud to say that since we started our candlemaking business, we have donated over $5000.
In addition, we have a special project called Backyardigans that promotes backyard vegetable gardening in the Philippines. Through this project, we provide seedlings and other materials to help encourage people to grow their own food.
We feel passionate about giving back to our communities and making a positive impact. It’s why we started this business in the first place, and we will continue to look for ways to make a difference.
